#13 Rangers Take NCAA Division I Wyoming to Four Sets
Laramie, Wyo.: The 13th-ranked Rangers headed north to take on NCAA Division I Wyoming and proved to be pesky taking the Cowgirls to four sets before bowing to them 28-26.
Regis (19-7) dropped the first set to Wyoming (19-7) 25-16 before the Rangers were able to take the second set 26-24. A service error by the Cowgirls and a service ace by senior Caitlin McDonnell gave the Rangers the victory.
The Rangers trailed late in the third set 24-21 before a kill by McDonnell and two attack errors by Wyoming's Calli Miller knotted the score at 24. Regis tied the score at 25 following a kill by freshman Katie Klein and again at 26 after freshman Caitie Breaux put down a point. Wyoming was able to get the next two points and take set three 28-26.
The Rangers again pushed the Cowgirls in set four but was unable to push through falling 25-20.
RU hit pretty well at .215 just two kills behind Wyoming at 61. Wyoming played well defensively at the net getting 14 total blocks to just one for the Rangers.
Klein led the Rangers with 19 total kills in 49 attempts. McDonnell put down 12 kills and had two service aces. Breaux and junior Lauren Flanagan each chipped in with 11 kills, with Flanagan getting it done in just 16 attempts with one error for a .625 attack percentage.
Freshman Jaclyn Williamson assisted on 51 kills and notched a double-double with 11 digs. Junior Sage Martinson led all players with 23 digs.
The Rangers, who are ranked first in the most recent NCAA South Central Region poll, will take on Colorado Mines on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. It will be a contest in which the winner will have sole possession of first place in the RMAC.
