Regis University Volleyball Announces 2012 Schedule
Denver, Colo.: The 2012 Regis University volleyball schedule has been released and on paper looks to be one of the toughest pre-RMAC schedule in all of Division II. The Rangers open the season against the five-time defending NCAA Division II National Champions in Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.).
The Rangers begin the season at the Concordia-St. Paul Tournament Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in St. Paul, Minn. Following the battle against likely pre-season #1 Concordia-St. Paul, Regis will play agains Southwest Minnesota State which finished eighth in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. On September 1st Regis plays Hillsdale (Mich.) and BYU-Hawaii. Hillsdale finished fifth in the nation while BYU-Hawaii received votes.
Regis will host Johnson & Wales on September 4th before the Colorado Premier Challenge gets underway September 7-8. Regis hosts Angelo State (Texas) and defending NCAA Division II runner-ups Cal State-San Bernardino. Angelo State finished the season ranked 19th.
The combined record from last season for the six NCAA teams the Rangers will begin the season playing is 173-23 (.883).
September 14th marks the first RMAC game and the first for Black Hills State as the Rangers host the Yellowjackets at the Regis Fieldhouse. Black Hills State takes the place of departed Nebraska-Kearney who left for the MIAA.
Regis plays two out-of-conference matches in the middle of the RMAC schedule. On September 18th the Rangers host South Dakota Mines and then on October 30th Regis travels north to Laramie, Wyo. to take on the University of Wyoming.
The RMAC will look different with the departure of Nebraska-Kearney, who had won or shared the RMAC title the last eight years.
Regis finished 2011 with a 21-9 record which was the 19th 20-win season in school history and the 14th in the illustrious career of head coach Frank Lavrisha.
