Regis Volleyball Cruises to Two Wins at St. Mary's Tournament

San Antonio, Texas: Regis used good defense and a balanced offensive attack to cruise to identical 3-0 victories over East Central and Abilene Christian at the St. Mary's Tournament.

Regis (2-0) won the first set 25-11 against East Central and then by the slimmest of margins in the next two 26-24 and 28-26.  Junior Caitlin McDonnell had a team-high eight kills for Regis, while junior Makayla Higgins and freshman Jessica Wojcik each supplied six.

Senior Cassidee Young had 21 digs in just three sets, while fellow senior Lyz Kann had a career-high 11 blocks.

The Rangers then took on Abilene Christian for the second time in as many years and again came out on top this time by scores of 20-16-17.  Regis hit at a .272 clip while limiting ACU just .136.

Freshman Gina Morgan got the start for the Rangers and had no errors in 23 attacks while putting down 10 kills for a .435 hitting percentage.  Senior Kyndell Highlands was not far behind at a .417 attack percentage and had just one error with six kills in 12 swings.

Sophomore Christy Henzgen, seeing her first action of the season, led the Rangers with 11 kills, while also snaring nine digs.  Young again led the Ranger defense with 10 digs, while sophomore Sage Martinson dug out nine balls and dished out 31 assists.  Kann and Morgan each collected three blocks.

Regis had just eight attack errors and with four service aces by Higgins, the Rangers had 11.

The ladies will play two more games tomorrow against Pace and Illinois-Springfield before returning home to take on a Slovenian Pro Club Team, Nova KBM Maribor.
