Volleyball Cruises in Identical 3-0 Victories Over Abilene Christian and Chaminade

Golden, Colo.: The Rangers finished up the 2010 Oredigger Volleyball Classic in style in identical 3-0 victories over Abilene Christian and Chaminade.  The Rangers finished the classic with a 2-2 record while senior outside hitter Jessica Howe was named to the all-tournament team. 

With the score tied at 11 in the first set against Abilene Christian, the Rangers showed their mettle going on a 9-2 run en route to a 25-17 victory.  The Rangers then went on a 12-3 run in the second set to win 25-18, while the Rangers finished the third set on a 4-0 run to complete the sweep at 25-22.

Freshman Christy Henzgen had 14 kills to lead all players, while Caitlin McDonnell came off the bench with a season-high 10 kills.  Freshman Sage Martinson led everyone with 19 digs, while senior Erin Anderson tallied five blocks.

Runs were the name of the game again for the Ranges in the nightcap against Chaminade.  Regis went on a 8-1 run after a 17-17 tie to win 25-18 in the first set.  Regis took the second set 25-17 and completed yet another sweep with a 25-18 win.

Henzgen again led the way with 13 kills, while sophomore Lyz Kann had nine kills as Regis outhit the Silverswords .206 to .034.  Martinson notched 20 more digs, while sophomore Jordan Hughes and Henzgen chipped in with 17 and 15 digs respectively.

Regis will now compete in the Colorado Premier Challenge next Friday and Saturday.
