Rangers Find Stride in Sweep of Colorado Mines

Golden, Colo.: The Regis Ranger volleyball team couldn't have scripted a better opening weekend of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Regis swept through Chadron State and then went into hostile Lockridge Arena where just one night previous, Colorado Mines upset #14 Metro State.  The Rangers used a career-high 12 kills from sophomore Lyz Kann to outplay the Orediggers in a three-set sweep.

Regis (4-6, 2-0 RMAC) used a 12-4 run early in the set to go ahead 13-5 and didn't look back in winning 25-19.  Kann had half of her kills in the first set, connecting on 50 percent of her 10 attacks.

Regis never trailed Mines (9-3, 1-1 RMAC) in the second set but held on late to win 25-22.  Despite hitting just .093 in the second set, the Rangers held Mines to just .091.  Junior Jessica Howe led the way with five kills in the set.

The Rangers fell behind 10-4 early in the third set but finished out the set with a 21-7 run to win going away 25-17.  Junior Sarah Keiter came off the bench to put home six kills on just 10 attempts (.500).  The Rangers saved their best set for last as they outhit the Orediggers .307-.147.

Howe had a match-high 13 kills to go along with Kann's 12.  Keiter ended with eight kills, a season high.  Three Rangers recorded double figures in digs, led by sophomore Cassidee Young's 13.  Freshman Katie Hudencial had 12 and junior Devin Eckhardt had 11 to go along with a match-high 35 assists.

Regis will host UC-Colorado Springs on Friday night at 7 PM.
