Rangers Can't Find Answer to Eighth-Ranked Nebraska-Kearney in 3-0 Loss
Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger volleyball team fell tonight to #8 ranked Nebraska-Kearney in straight sets. The Regis defense couldn't find any answer for the Loper offense as UNK hit .345 on the night.
Regis (7-7, 5-1 RMAC) and Nebraska-Kearney (14-1, 5-0 RMAC) were battling for the top spot in the RMAC.
Nebraska-Kearney took the first set 25-18 behind a .367 hitting percentage compared to a .061 percentage for Regis. Regis led 8-3 before the Lopers went on a 7-0 run to go ahead for good.
The Rangers got behind the eight-ball early on and trailed by as many as 10 at 17-10. The Rangers cut the lead to 20-15 before UNK went on a 4-0 run to put the set away.
Regis controlled much of the third set and led 21-16 and earned nine of the last 11 points to win the set 25-23.
Junior Kerry Grady led Regis with nine kills while sophomore Lyz Kann had seven kills and just one error in 14 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage. Juniors Sarah Keiter and Jessica Howe were next with six and five kills respectively.
Keiter led the Rangers with eight digs, while junior Devin Eckhardt and senior Maggie Workman each had seven digs.
Regis played well at the net with 10 blocks led by Kann's six blocks. Eckhardt was next with four block assists.
Regis will host New Mexico Highlands next Friday, October 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Regis Fieldhouse.
