Rangers Rally from 0-2 Hole to Take Match Over UC-Colorado Springs 3-2
Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger volleyball team found themselves down 2-0 to the Mountain Lions of UC-Colorado Springs in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action this evening at the Regis Fieldhouse. But something happened after coming out of the locker room for the third set and Regis rallied to win the match 3-2.
Regis (5-6, 3-0 RMAC) fell in the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-21. The match was won and lost at the net as UC-Colorado Springs (6-5, 1-2 RMAC) hit .194 and .161 in the first two sets but were only able to hit as high as .087 the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, Regis hit .119 in the first set and .000 for the second set. The pep talk that 23rd year head coach Frank Lavrisha, who now has 491 career wins, worked. Regis hit .303 in set three, and .231 and .250 in the final two sets.
Regis was able to accumulate 36 kills over the final three sets to just 23 for UC-Colorado Springs.
Junior Jessica Howe again led the offense with 15 kills, while fellow junior Erin Anderson had a career-high 13 kills. Junior Devin Eckhardt had a match-high 49 assists and just missed a double-double with nine digs.
Sophomore Cassidee Young had a match-high 21 digs, while freshman Katie Hudencial tied a career-high with 15 digs. Junior Sarah Keiter registered a double-double with 10 kills with just three erros while digging out 12 attacks.
Anderson led the Rangers with five block assists helping the Rangers to eight total blocks. Eckhardt and junior Kerry Grady each had three block assists.
Regis will return to action tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. as they host Colorado Christian at the Regis Fieldhouse.
