Regis Volleyball Wins Two at Augustana/Spring Hill Suites Invitational

Sioux Falls, S.D.: The Ranger volleyball team used solid hitting to dispense of Northern State in five sets and Missouri Western St. in straight sets.  Regis got a combined 30 kills from junior all-american Jessica Howe and helped Regis hit a .222 and .202 respectively.

Northern State and Regis swapped wins in the first four sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 18-25).  Regis then put it away in the fifth set by winning 15-9.  Howe led the Rangers again with 17 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Lyz Kann contributed 10.  Junior Erin Anderson and senior Maggie Workman each put down nine kills.

Four Rangers were in double figures in digs led by freshman Jordan Hughes' 24.  Workman was next with 17, while freshman Katie Hudencial dug 14 balls.  Junior Devin Eckhardt recorded her first double-double of the season with 49 assists and 11 digs.

The second game went a little smoother for Regis, defeating Missouri Western in straight sets (27-25, 25-23, 25-20).  They limited the Griffons to just .107 hitting percentage and 22 hitting errors.

Howe again led the way offensively with 13 kills (13-2-29, .379).  Workman and Kann each chipped in with seven kills apiece.  Hughes led the defense with 17 digs, while the team had 11.0 team blocks including five each from Anderson and Howe.

Regis improves to 2-1 on the young season and will finish up their trip to South Dakota with a 9:00 a.m. (CT) game against nationally ranked Southwest Minnesota State.  You can watch the game by logging onto northernsun.tv or view live stats by going to goaugie.com.
