Ranger Volleyball Fights off Pesky Chadron State on Senior Night in Straight Sets

Denver, Colo.: On senior night the lone senior, Maggie Workman, stepped up and helped the Rangers defeat Chadron State 3-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.  Furthermore, the Rangers secured a spot in the RMAC Tournament in two weeks and the win put head coach Frank Lavrisha's total at 499.

Regis (13-12, 11-6 RMAC) took the match by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.  Regis had 47 kills in the match compared to just 28 for Chadron State (5-18, 5-11 RMAC).

Offensively the Rangers were very balanced being led by junior Jessica Howe and sophomore Lyz Kann's 10 kills apiece.  It was Howe's 19th double-figure kill match of the season and the 48th of her career.  Junior Kerry Grady and freshman Jordan Hughes tallied eight kills each, helping the Rangers hit .255 compared to .104 for Chadron State.

Senior Maggie Workman playing in her final home game of her career led the Ranger defense with 12 digs.  Sophomore Cassidee young chipped in with eight digs, while freshman Katie Hudencial had seven.

At the net, Howe reverted back to her middle blocker days with one solo block and three block assists to pace all Rangers.  The Eagles out-blocked the Rangers 11-6 with Jasmine Sandoval pacing all with seven total blocks.

The Rangers have one more weekend of regular season play before they travel to Kearney, Neb. for the RMAC Tournament to defend their title.  Friday night Regis will take on Colorado Christian, while Saturday they travel down to Colorado Springs to take on the red-hot UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.

With one more win under his belt Frank Lavrisha will become the 24th coach in NCAA Division II history to notch 500 career wins.
