Regis Volleyball Excels in the Classroom; Earn AVCA Academic Team Award

Lexington, Ken.: The 2009-10 Regis volleyball team recently earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Team Academic Award for its cumulative 3.547 grade point average throughout the academic year.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Regis was one of 55 NCAA Division II schools and only one of two RMAC schools to earn the honor.  It was the ninth time since the inception of the program during the 1992-93 school year.  The nine awards is the fourth highest amongst all division II institutions.  This is the first time the Rangers have earned this award since the 2004 team was named.

The Rangers finished the 2009-10 season with a 14-14 record including a 12-7 RMAC record.  The Rangers embark for a week long trip to Europe in the middle of August before returning to the states and competing in the Oredigger Volleyball Classic in Golden, Colo. September 3-4.
