Rangers Bounce Back with Straight Set Defeat of Mesa State
Grand Junction, Colo.: The Rangers used good hitting and a stingy defense in dispensing of Mesa State in three sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21. The Rangers hit .262 for the match, with just 18 hitting errors, while digging 46 of the Maverick 104 attacks. Each of the three sets were close throughout but the Rangers were able to keep the ball in play and did not beat themselves down the stretch.
Sophomore Jessica Howe again led the offensive attack for Regis (8-8, 4-4 RMAC) with 19 kills on 32 attempts and just three hitting errors for a .500 hitting percentage. The Rangers had 46 kills in the three sets and sophomore Devin Eckhardt assisted on 36 of them. Sophomore Kerry Grady and senior Cassie Skipitis came off the bench to tally nine and seven kills respectively.
Freshman Cassidee Young led the Rangers defensively with 14 digs, while a trio of Rangers, Hannah Tautolo, Eckhardt and Liz Franz each collected six.
Jessica Bird and Megan Bosch led the Mesa State (8-8, 6-3 RMAC) with nine kills apiece.
Regis returns home next week with three straight nights hosting RMAC opponents. On Thursday, Western State comes to the Fieldhouse, with CSU-Pueblo and Adams State coming to town on Friday and Saturday nights respectively. All game times are set for 7 PM.
