Rangers Bounce Back with Four Set Defeat of New Mexico Highlands
Las Vegas, N.M.: The Regis University volleyball team had their third highest attack percentage of the season in dispatching New Mexico Highlands in four sets, 25-13, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night. Regis hit .290 for the match, which has only been bested by their .381 and .348 percentages in wins over C.W. Post and Franklin Pierce.
Since moving to the outside hitter position sophomore Jessica Howe has averaged 4.42 kills per set and eclipsed her career high with 23 kills against New Mexico Highlands. Howe only had two errors, hitting at a .412 clip. Senior middle hitter Liz Franz was also in double figures with 12 kills. Franz and Howe along with sophomore setter Devin Ekchardt and freshman middle hitter Liz Kann all tallied three blocks each.
Kann had only one error in 15 swings and ended with six kills. Eckhardt, the RMAC's second leading assist person, notched 44 assists to go along with a team-high 11 digs. Senior defensive specialist Nia Ingram also tallied a team-high 11 digs, while freshman libero Cassidee Young had 10 digs. That was Young's sixth straight double-figure dig match and her 11th out of 12.
Regis (12-9, 8-5 RMAC) is now a perfect 10-0 when they hit better than .200 for the match. New Mexico Highlands (8-14, 2-11 RMAC) was led by Doreen Zamora's 14 kills and Ashley Murray's 11.
Regis will host cross-town rival Metro State on Tuesday at the Regis Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 7 PM.
