Ranger Volleyball Earn Two More Victories at Long Island C.W. Post Tournament

Brookville, N.Y.: The Ranger volleyball team experienced two matches today that were as opposite as you can get in volleyball.  The Rangers first took on Dallas Baptist and the two teams dueled for over two hours with Regis coming out victorious 3-2.  The second match pitted the Rangers against Franklin Pierce, the Rangers dispatched of the Ravens 3-0 in just 54 minutes.

Regis took the first two sets against Dallas Baptist but lost the next two sets to force a fifth game.  The Rangers started out on fire in the fifth game and left little dout to raise their season record to a perfect 2-0.

The Rangers had a balanced attack as three players had double figure kills.  Sophomore middle hitter Jessica Howe and senior middle hitter Liz Franz each tallied 15 kills, while sophomore right side hitter Kerry Grady chipped in with 14.  The Rangers had 14 blocks in the game led by Howe, Franz and sophomore setter Devin Eckhardt's six blocks apiece.  Senior libero Kristin Thompson had 17 digs for game high honors and three service aces.  The Rangers hit .238 for the game.

"We had a fight on our hands and the girls responded well to a tough situation," commented head coach Frank Lavrisha. "Our toughness showed itself and in the fifth game they took over."

The second match of the day wouldn't prove as dramatic as the Rangers took the first game 25-12.  The Ravens scored 12 in the second set and only 15 in the third as Regis improves to 3-0 on the young season.  Jessica Howe led the team with nine kills while Devin Eckhardt hit .800 on 8-of-10 attacks.  The Rangers defense limited Franklin Pierce to a -.062 hitting percentage as they had 21 errors and just 16 kills.

The Rangers will close out their road trip to Long Island as they will play Bentley on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Mountain time.  The Rangers will be home next weekend as they host Central Missouri and NCAA National Champion Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Sept. 5.
