Regis Volleyball "Post" First Victory of the Season

Brookville, N.Y.: The Regis Ranger volleyball team got their season off on the right foot as they "posted" a 3-0 sweep of host C.W. Post.  The Rangers took just 1 hour and 15 minutes to dispense of the Pioneers led by senior all-conference performer Liz Franz.  Franz led the Rangers with 14 kills on 20 swings.  The sophomore trio of Kerry Grady, Jessica Howe and Melissa Piazza each chipped in with six kills.

The Rangers hit a robust .381 to just .163 for C.W. Post.  "I am proud of the girls, they came out strong and didn't let up tonight," says head coach Frank Lavrisha.  The Rangers won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21 before they turned up the heat winning 25-13 in the third set.

The two freshman also had a big impact tonight highlighted by defensive specialist Casidee Young.  Young led the Rangers with eight digs, while middle hitter Liz Kann came in the third set to register three kills in just five attacks.  Sophomore setter Devin Ekchardt registered 33 assists while junior transfer Maggie Workman had three service aces to lead the Rangers.

Regis has two more games tomorrow against Dallas Baptist and Franklin Pierce as they continue play in the C.W. Post Long Island Tournament.
