Rangers Complete Sweep in Long Island Defeating Bentley in Five Sets
Brookville, N.Y: The Ranger volleyball traveled to Long Island, N.Y. for the C.W. Post Tournament in search of four wins and after winning their first three only Bentley stood in the way. Senior middle hitter Liz Franz made sure that the Rangers would leave with four wins as she tallied a season-high 24 kills on 41 attempts as Regis defeated Bentley in five sets; 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14.
Regis hit at a .232 clip while Bentley was limited to .180 for the match. Franz was joined in double figures by junior outside hitter Maggie Workman, sophomore middle hitter Jessica Howe and sophomore right side hitter Kerry Grady's 10 kills each. Franz hit .415 for the game while Howe registered a .348 attack percentage. Sophomore setter Devin Eckhardt tallied 56 assists and three blocks.
Regis combined for 13 blocks during the match including seven by Franz. Howe had five while Grady had four block assists. Freshman defensive specialist Casidee Young had a team-high 14 digs with seniors Nia Ingram and Hannah Tautolo each having 11.
"Bentley was a very quick tempo team and we had to adjust to their style of play," comments head coach Frank Lavrisha. "We will see this style of play in the RMAC so it was good for the team to get a taste of it."
Regis returns home next weekend as they host one of the, if not the toughest tournament in the country. The Premier Challenge Tournament takes place at Regis and Metro State on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6.
