Ranger Volleyball Gives Out 2008 Team Awards

Denver, Colo.: The 2008 Regis Volleyball team awards were given out at a banquet held on the Regis campus. Sophomore Jessica Howe won the "Most Valuable Player" award, sophomore Devin Eckhardt was given the "Grit" Award, freshman Lyz Kann was tabbed as the "Most Improved" and sophomore Sarah Keiter earned the "7th Woman" award.

Sophomore middle hitter Jessica Howe (Pueblo, Colo.) won the "Most Valuable Player" award. She led the team with 3.60 kills per set and was third with 0.68 blocks per set. She also led the team with 472.0 points on the season averaging 4.07 per set. All of these stats placed her in the top ten among other player s in the RMAC in the specific statistical category. She was second in kills per set, third in points per set, and sixth with a hitting percentage of 0.286 in the RMAC.  Howe was named AVCA Third Team All-American.

Sophomore setter Devin Eckhardt (LaSalle, Colo.) earned the respect of her teammates and coaches to win the "Grit" Award. It recognizes the work ethic, competitiveness, and sheer determination in practice and in matches. Eckhardt led the Rangers in assists per set averaging 10.56 accounting for much of the Rangers' 11.75 assists per set average. This statistic placed her second in the conference.  She also had the second best mark on the team for digs per set averaging 2.33.   Eckhardt was named  All-RMAC Third Team.

Freshman middle hitter Lyz Kann (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was recognized as the "Most Improved" player. She tallied 1.38 kills per set. Most impressive was her 0.94 blocks per set average which was the best mark on the team this past season and placed her second among all players in the RMAC.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Keiter (Arvada, Colo.) won the "7th Woman" Award as the most significant contributor off the bench. She played in 30 matches starting 20 of them and averaged 0.82 kills and 1.81 digs per set.
