2008 Premier Challenge Gets Underway with Two Straight Set Victories
Denver, Colo.: The 2008 Premier Challenge Tournament got underway with two straight set victories at the Regis Fieldhouse. Third-ranked and defending national champions Concordia-St. Paul defeated 20th ranked Central Missouri by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-20. Maria Steinhagen and Sadie Kessler had 13 and 11 kills respectively. The Golden Eagles hit .368 to just .052 for Central Missouri. Concordia-St. Paul improves to 4-1 on the season while Central Missouri falls to an even 2-2.
On the other court in the fieldhouse sixth-ranked West Texas A&M defeated Northwood University in three sets 27-25, 25-14 and 25-16. Melissa Harper and Natalie Johnson had 13 and 10 kills respectively. Katie Rickwartz had 41 set assists for the Lady Buffs, while libero Sara Contreras had 20 digs in the match. Northwood was led by Gordana Barac's 10 kills. Northwood falls to 1-4 on the season while West Texas improves to 5-0.
