Road Struggles Continue for the Rangers
Chadron, Neb.: The Regis University volleyball team swept
Chadron State earlier this season at home in Denver. But the Eagles
got the best of the Rangers at home the second time around. Lindsey
Heisler's 32 kills helped propel CSC to the win in five games,
21-30, 30-27, 25-30, 31-29 and 10-15.
The Rangers are now 10-15 overall and 8-9 in the RMAC. The Eagles
improve to 10-18 overall and 7-10 in conference play. The win for
Chadron was their first against RU since 2003. While the Rangers
are 6-3 at home this season they have struggled on the road as they
are now just 2-8.
In game one Regis fell behind early and once CSC jumped out to a
15-14 lead they grabbed the win outscoring RU at that point 15 to
7. Errors hurt the Rangers as they finished game one with ten. The
Eagles finished the game with a .341 hitting percentage, 18 kills
and just four errors.
In game two RU took charge early. Chadron State rallied back tying
the game on six separate occasions. But when the score was tied at
27-27 the Rangers pulled away scoring the next three straight
points to win game two.
Game three was close as well but the Eagles managed six more kills
and a .250 hitting percentage to just a .179 hitting percentage for
the Rangers. Regis posted their best hitting percentage in game
four (.211) to tie the match at two a piece.
Game five was a struggle as a team the Rangers combined for a match
low .080 hitting percentage which allowed the Eagles to shut the
door and take the final game 15-10 for the win.
Four Rangers finished the match with double digit kills. Liz Franz
(Jr., Littleton, Colo.) led the way with 19 kills and .333 hitting
percentage. Meghan Meehan (So., Huntington Beach, Calif.) added 18
while Melissa Piazza (Fr., Lake Forest, Ill.) and Jessica Howe
(Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) posted 15 and 14 kills.
Kristin Thompson (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) posted a season high 35
digs. Devin Eckhardt (Fr., LaSalle, Colo.) had a season high 67
assists.
The Rangers will play the final home match on Tuesday, October 30th
when they host the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at 7:00
pm.
