The Regis University women's soccer team took on the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves in their fourth conference match up this season. The win will give the Rangers a 5-3-0 overall record and a 2-2-0 RMAC Conference record.
A slow start for both teams, things got exciting when freshman midfielder Kikki Arnold scored the first goal of the game. Sophomore midfielder Rachel McMahon started the play with a corner kick in the 32nd minute. She crossed to Arnold who finished with a header into the left side of the goal.
About the play, Arnold said, "it felt good, it was good to put in one goal so we were confident in finishing the game with a win."
The Rangers built up enough momentum before the end of the first half to score another goal. Sophomore forward CC Rinehart passed the ball into the box to senior forward Jordan Miller who finished out the play with the goal.
Head coach J.B. Belzer said, "I was very pleased to see all of our team contribute to today's effort. We shared the load equally and that's important as we go forward with the season into Sunday as well as the rest of the season.
Junior midfielder Marissa Davis scored in the second half. Davis gained control of the ball on the Ranger's offensive side, dribbled down the field and booted one through to finish out the play.
The ThunderWolves Gabby Gonzalez had a chance to score in the 79th minute but her efforts were put to a stop quickly by freshman midfielder Kendal Kagawa who beat Gonzalez out for the ball.
Belzer also commented, "I'm extremely pleased with the 3-0 result and we set a goal of trying to earn a shutout today and we did an extremely good job on that." He went on to say, "we scored three good goals and managed the match well.
Junior goalkeeper Nicole Eddings will get her second win of the season while putting up six saves and allowing no one to score. The Rangers had 13 shots on goal and two assists on the day.
The women will play again at home Sunday, September 25th against New Mexico Highlands University at 1:00 PM.
