Coach JB Belzer Gains 200th Career Win in Rangers' 1-0 Defeat Over Mesa State
Denver, Colo.: Coach JB Belzer notched his 200th career win on Wednesday when the Rangers defeated Mesa State 1-0 at home in the RMAC post season first round. Belzer is now 200-84-16 in his career and has guided Regis to a 14-3-4 record so far this season.
The entire first half went scoreless as the Rangers outshot the Mavericks 11 to three in the half and forced MSC goalkeeper Alicia Kahler to make three saves. While Regis was unable to find the back of Mesa State's net in the first half, the second half read a different story.
Just over 20 minutes into the second half (66:40), freshman Chelsea Bokan scored the game winning goal, her seventh this season, when she headed the ball passed Kahler. What began as a free kick from near the midfield line by senior Heidi Boersma turned into a service to Bokan for the goal.
This goal was the first and last of the game leading the Rangers to a victory and to another game for the 2009 season. In the match, Regis outshot Mesa State 22 to six and forced seven saves.
In their next matchup, the Rangers will face Metro State on Fri., Nov. 6th at Metro State. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
