Rangers Score Three in Second Half for 3-0 Defeat Over Thunderwolves

Denver, Colo.: After a scoreless first half, the Rangers scored three in the second to walk away with a 3-0 defeat over the Thunderwolves on Friday. Seniors Chelsea Reichard and Heather Thomas, and freshman Ryndi Zastrow scored one goal each in the match.

In the first half, shots were matched evenly as neither team was able to sneak one into the others net. The second half read a different story.

"Marianne Claussen came up with some huge saves in the first half for us that kept the game level when we couldn’t grab a goal ourselves," said Coach JB Belzer. "That was key to get us to half time.”

Regis outshot CSU-Pueblo (3-8-2, 2-6-1 RMAC) in the second period 13 to six while scoring three goals and holding the Thunderwolves to zero. The first goal was scored just over ten minutes into the period (55:53) when Reichard headed in a corner kick service from freshman Erin Kettmann.

Less than five minutes later, at the 62:30 mark, Heather Thomas scored her fifth goal of the game as she recieved a loose ball near the Thunderwolves goal and sent it into the lower left corner of Pueblo's net.

The final goal of the game was scored with just 44 seconds remaining. Sophomore Jordan Miller served the ball to Zastrow who shot the ball over the fingertips of Thunderwolves' midair goalkeeper Randi Walters.

Just as each goal was scored by a different Regis player, every player contributed in the win.

“I think Katie Horn had an outstanding game," said Belzer. "She played 90 minutes, she won balls in the middle, she distributed, she switched the point of attack. I thought she did a very good job.

“Katie King got a start today because she performed so well off the bench over the last few games so I was pleased to see Katie earn that start." Belzer also recognized Shawnee Wood by saying that "[she] played very well in the second half.”

After defeating Pueblo, Regis will face the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs at 1:00 p.m. The Rangers will head to Colorado Springs with a 9-2-2 record (6-1-2 RMAC).
