No. 23 Ranked Rangers Claim 10-0 Victory Over Rambelles in Season Opener
Denver, Colo.: Opening their season with a victory, the No. 23 ranked Rangers shutout the Angelo State Rambelles 10-0 at home on Friday. Jordan Miller, Lexi Tagen, and Kelsey Froehlich tallied two goals each while Katie Horn, Marissa Davis, Chelsea Reichard, and Ryndi Zastrow each had one.
Much of the first half was spent in Rambell territory as Regis worked to keep the ball out of their end of the field. Six of the Rangers' ten goals were scored in the first period in 15 shot attempts. In all of these attempts, Regis held Angelo State to just three.
Goal one and two were scored by Tagen, the second on a penalty kick, at the 10:47 and 16:44 mark respectively. Miller scored just under two minutes later to put the Rangers up 3-0 less than 20 minutes into the game.
With about 19 mintues and 30 seconds left in the half, Davis decided to add another goal to the Rangers previous three. She dribbled in from the left wing and sent the ball into the upper right corner of the net for goal number four.
As the halftime neared, Horn added a goal of her own when Miller, in near the goal, kicked the ball out to her where she attacked from straight in front of the net.
With about three minutes left, the last goal of the half was scored when Miller retrieved her own blocked shot from Angelo State goalkeeper Bonnie Wallace and sent it into the Rambelles goal.
After the Rangers scored six goals in the first half, the first 13 minutes of the second half went scoreless. At the 58:51 mark, Reichard used her head and decided to increase Regis' lead to 7. Tagen served a corner kick into the box where Reichard headed the ball past Wallace for the goal.
Goal number eight came when Chelsea Bokan and Davis assisted Froehlich on a shot from just in front of Angelo State's net. This was at the 62:01 mark.
Ryndi Zastrow and Froehlich each added one more goal within the last ten minutes of the game to end the game in a 10-0 victory for the Rangers.
Regis outshot Angelo State 28 to 10 while placing 17 of those shots on goal. The Rambelles had one shot on goal during the match.
Regis will face Eastern New Mexico University in their next match on Sun., Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. at the Regis Match Pitch.
