Rangers Fall to Metro State in RMAC Championship Game; Place Four on All-Tournament Team
Denver, Colo.: The Regis University women's soccer nine-game winning streak came to an end this afternoon as they were defeated by crosstown rival Metro State in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship game 1-0. The Rangers placed four on the RMAC All-Tournament Team.
The two evenly matched teams battled for the first 11 minutes before anyone got a shot off. Freshman Jordan Miller's shot at 11:18 was the first of the game for either team and just went wide right. Six minutes 37 second later Metro State's Becca Mays scored the lone goal of the game. Her shot was heading towards the right post before it was deflected by a Ranger defender and trickled in on the left side.
Regis (15-6) had a lot of opportunites in the second half but couldn't capitalize on any near the net. With just 7:27 left in the game the Rangers thought they had tied it up by Miller's attempt hit the left post and missed by inches before a Metro State defender was able to clear the ball.
Regis outshot Metro State (17-1-3) 18-12 including 10-4 in shots on goal. Freshman Rosie Campbell had another solid match in goal logging all 90 minutes allowing just the one goal and collecting two saves.
Regis will now wait to hear where they will be seeded for the upcoming Central Region tournament. Pairings will be announced on Monday.
