Regis Women's Soccer Upsets Eighth-Ranked Minnesota State-Mankato to Even Record at 1-1

Mankato, Minn.: The Regis Ranger women's soccer team have one of the toughest early season schedules in the country battling #19 Winona State on Thursday and #8 Minnesota State Mankato on Saturday.  The Rangers battled Winona State taking them to overtime before falling 2-1, however Saturday it would be a different story.  The Rangers toppled eighth-ranked Minnesota State 2-1 to upset the Mavericks who were 17-3-1 last season advancing to the North Central Region finals.

Regis struck first when all-conference performer senior forward Carter Cornett scored just over nine minutes into the match.  Freshman forward wunderkind Jordan Miller assisted on the play.  The Rangers went into halftime with the 1-0 lead, but with just four minutes expired in the second half Minnesota State's Carly Petersen scored on a free kick.

The two teams battled for field position the next 30 minutes before Miller struck again.  With just over eight minutes left in the game the 5-9 forward from Santa Fe, N.M. scored her first collegiate goal and the game-winning goal on an assist from senior midfielder Cassie Cornett.

Another freshman had a big hand in the win; goalkeeper Rosie Campbell allowed just one goal and saved four Maverick shots on the day earning her first victory of her career.  The Rangers outshot Minnesota State 22-15 including a 14-4 advantage in the first half.

The Rangers are now 1-1 on the season and return home Friday, Sept. 5th as they battle Grand Canyon on the Regis Match Pitch with kickoff set for 5 PM.
