Heidi Chandler Scores Rangers' Lone Goal in 2-1 Loss to Lynn University
Denver, Colo.: Freshman midfielder Heidi Chandler scored her first collegiate goal and Regis' only goal in the Rangers' 2-1 loss to Lynn University on Sunday in Denver.
For almost the entire first half of the game, both teams fought for field position taking few shots and trying to keep the ball out of their territory. Regis had five shots on goal and Lynn had two up until the 41:19 mark when Chandler scored the first goal of the game giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Chandler dribbled in toward the left side of the goal and shot from about 18 yards out putting the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
13 minutes and 30 seconds into the second half the Fighting Knights tied the score at one when freshman Melissa Ortiz stole the ball from a Regis defender and dribbled in to take a shot from about 20 yards out. The ball found its way into the upper right corner of the net evening the score out at 1-1.
Just under 12 minutes later Lynn took the lead on senior Molly Anderson's goal. Sarah Mendelsberg assisted on the play when her own shot bounced back to her off of the crossbar and she served the ball to Anderson.
Neither team scored again leaving the final score at 2-1.
