Cornett and Boersma Named to Daktronics All-Central Region Teams

Denver, Colo.: Senior forward Carter Cornett and junior defender Heidi Boersma were recently recognized for their strong play on the pitch this fall.  Cornett was named Daktronics First Team All-Central Region while Boersma was named to the second team.  The two helped guide the Rangers to a 17-7 record and a berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament where they were defeated by Metro State in the Central Region Championship match.

Cornett, from Edmond, Okla., earned First Team All-RMAC honors this season helping the Rangers finish runner-up in the RMAC during the regular season and in the RMAC Tournament.  Her 27 goals is second all-time at Regis and is the second most in the NCAA this season.  She scored 60 points this season, also second in Regis history and her eight game-winning goals are a new Regis season record.  In the RMAC, she led the league in goals and points, while all-time she is tied for third with her 27 goals and fifth in points scored.  Cornett helped the Rangers tally a new school record 74 goals this season.  Cornett will now go on the All-America ballot to be voted on this week.

Boersma, from Littleton, Colo., led one of the best defenses in the RMAC.  She helped the Rangers to 10 shutouts this season including four in the last seven matches of the season.  The Regis defense, led by Boersma, held their opponents to a 1.07 goals against average, with the Rangers outscoring their opponents by a 74-26 margin.  Boersma attempted nine shots on the season and was named Second Team All-RMAC and First Team Academic All-RMAC.

Regis finished with a 17-7 record and earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament.  They proceeded to defeat Augustana (S.D.) in the first round 3-0 and 11th-ranked Winona State 3-1 in the second round to set up the third and final meeting against cross-town rival Metro State in the Central Region Championship Match where the Rangers fell 2-1 in overtime.
