Seniors Say Farewell After 6-2 Victory Over Adams State in the Rangers Last Home Game This Season

Denver, Colo.: Senior twin sisters Carter and Cassie Cornett both scored two each on senior day in the Rangers’ 6-2 defeat over Adams State College Sunday afternoon in Denver.

Before the start of their last home game, the Rangers’ five seniors were recognized for their accomplishments as Regis student-athletes. Holly Redmond, Katie Turco, Cassie Cornett, Carter Cornett, and Kelley Schneider were hugged by all of the current members of the women’s soccer team, their coaches, and last by their parents who they met at midfield. After best wishes from everyone, the seniors took the field for their last home game as Regis Rangers.

Just six minutes and 47 seconds into the game, Adams State took the lead when senior Michelle Reed dribbled past the Regis defense for a shot which scored the first goal of the game.

At the 18:28 mark Regis junior Lexi Tagen tied the score at one when freshman Alli Dandurand crossed the ball to her for the shot. The Rangers took the lead when Carter scored her first goal of the game with close to ten and a half minutes left in the first period. From a corner kick, Dandurand serviced the ball into the Grizzlies goal box where Carter headed the ball in for her twentieth goal of the season and the Rangers’ second of the game.

Regis increased their lead to two before the closing of the first half when junior Heather Thomas scored on an assist from sophomore Katie Horn.

Just two minutes and three seconds into the second half Carter scored again on an assist from Tagen to put the Rangers up by three. Cassie scored at the 52:31 mark and the 60:20 mark to make the score 6-1 in Regis’ favor. Cassie was first assisted by freshman Shawnee Wood and then by freshman Jordan Miller.

Adams State came within four at the 69:03 mark when freshman Megan Azzolina scored her first goal of the season. The Grizzlies could not score again before the end of the game leaving the final score at 6-2 with the victory going to Regis.

The Rangers will face Mesa State College on Fri., Oct. 31 in Grand Junction. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
