Rangers Shutout Grizzilies 10-0 on the Road; 14th Ranked Metro State Next Up
Alamosa, Colo.: Senior Carter Cornett jumps to double digits for goals scored this season after scoring three Friday against Adams State to help lead the Rangers to a 10-0 shutout in Alamosa.
Just five minutes and 39 seconds into the first half, Cornett shot from the left wing to score the Rangers first goal of the match. Continuing to put pressure on the Grizzlies defense, the Rangers had nine more shots before the 18:41 mark when Cornett scored again giving Regis a 2-0 lead.
Cassie Cornett, also a senior, scored her first goal of the season and the third for the Rangers in the game just over six minutes later. Junior midfielder Heather Thomas assisted on the play.
The Rangers scored one more before the end of the half when freshman Kari Taylor scored her first collegiate goal from in the box with 5:35 left.
With a 4-0 lead going into the second half, Regis, not backing down, scored six more times before the end of the game.
43 seconds after the start of the second period, freshman Jordan Miller scored on an assist from Carter Cornett. Cornett then scored her third goal for the game just under eleven minutes later. The next goal for the Rangers came from Miller at the 59:59 mark on an assist from junior Lexi Tagen.
Now up 7-0, Regis scored three more with just under nine minutes left in the game. Heather Thomas scored her first goal of the season on an assist from freshman Shawnee Wood at the 81:06 mark. Just over four minutes later, freshman Emilie Eisman scored her first goal in a college game on an assist from senior Holly Redmond. With one minute and 28 seconds remaining in the game, Kelsey Froehlich scored her first of the season to make the final score 10-0.
The Rangers outshot the Grizzlies 39 to 10 in the game.
Regis will play next on Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Regis Match Pitch. They will face Metro State with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
