Ranger Women's Soccer Ink Five Outstanding Student-Athletes to Play For Regis Next Fall
Denver, Colo.: Regis University head women's soccer coach J.B. Belzer has announced the signing of five high school seniors to National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at RU in the fall. Belzer announced that Taylor White, Nicole Eddings, Chelsea Bokan, Maddie Reeves, and Marissa Davis will all join the women's soccer team in the upcoming school year.
Taylor White, a 5-11 defender, comes to Regis from Ralston Valley High school in Arvada, Colo. She was a four-year starter on her high school soccer team and earned First Team All-Jeffco honors in 2007 and 2008 tacking on honorable mention all-state honors after the 2008 season. She was named Ralston Valley HS Defensive MVP in 2006, 2007, and 2008 while also being named the All-Around MVP and Team Captain during her senior campaign.
Coach Belzer states, "Calm, cool and composed is the best way to describe Taylor. Her technical ability, especially forward passing, will permit her to compete for playing time immediately as a central defender or defensive center-mid."
Joining the Rangers to defend the goal is 5-10 Nicole Eddings. Eddings currently attends Issaquah High School in Issaquah, Wash. She was named First-Team All KingCo in 2007-08, and 2008-09. During these same consecutive seasons, Eddings was also named to the Seattle PI All Star Team as a goal keeper. Leading her team to the King County Conference Championship during the 2008-09 season, Eddings was the Team Captain and earned her fourth varsity letter during this season. She also earned Second Team All-State honors during her junior and senior seasons.
"At 5-11 Nicole brings great presence in goal. Her command and control of her box area and organization of her defense are key attributes which will permit her to compete for playing time as a freshman." Comments Belzer.
Bokan is a 5-8 forward out of Boise, Idaho. She attends Bishop Kelly High School where she scored 33 goals as a senior on her way to 85 career goals. Bokan was named the Southern Idaho Conference Player of the Year in 2008 after leading Bishop Kelly HS to back-to-back state championships in class 4A. Bokan is a finalist for the Idaho Gatorade State Player of the Year. She is also an accomplished basketball player leading Bishop Kelly to a Class 4A State Runner-up finish last season. She is a two-time SIC Honorable Mention selection at point guard.
Belzer says, "Chelsea will be that cerebral forward who finds herself in the correct place to score goals as well as she assists others. She is a versatile athlete who will bring great leadership qualities to our team."
Reeves is a 5-10 defender who will graduate from Broomfield High School this spring. Reeves is a four-time letter winner at Broomfield HS earning Honorable Mention All-State honors this fall. She was also a First-Team All Northern League selection as well as a Second Team All-Region selection following her senior campaign. Reeves helped BHS to a Colorado Class 4A State Soccer Championship in 2006 and a state basketball championship in basketball during the 2007-08 season. She has also lettered twice in both cross country and basketball.
"Maddie is a consummate team player with excellent potential" states Belzer. "Her work ethic, physical size, and commitment to excellence will help improve our back line immediately."
Golden Senior High School product Marissa Davis is a 5-8 midfield/forward who earned three letters on the soccer pitch. She was a three-time First Team All-Jeffco performer and earned All-State in 2007. She helped GHS to a Jeffco League Championship in 2007 and a berth in the semifinals of the Colorado Class 4A State Tournament. Davis also played three seasons of basketball at Golden High School.
Belzer comments, "Moe will be a handful for RMAC defenders as her tenacity is matched by her athleticism and finesse. Capable of scoring sublime goals, Davis will be expected to contribute in the forward and attacking midfield roles."
The Rangers finished the 2008 season with a 17-7 record overall
and an 11-2 mark in the RMAC. Regis was runner-up in the
RMAC regular season as well as the
RMAC Tournament. The Rangers were awarded with a berth
to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament where
they won two games and made it to the regional final falling to
Metro State 2-1 in overtime.
Regis University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in
the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
