Duda's Four Goals Leads Rangers to 13-8 WILA Win Over Colorado Mesa
Denver, Colo.: The Regis University women's lacrosse team finished out their WILA portion of their schedule with a 13-8 victory over Colorado Mesa.
For the fourth straight time, Regis (8-7, 6-2 WILA) defeated Colorado Mesa but unlike the previous three, this one wasn't as easy. The Rangers scored the first five goals, two of them by senior Ari McDonald to take a 5-0 lead with 14:39 left in the first half.
The Rangers scored three more goals in the first half but it could have been a lot more if it weren't for the stellar play of Colorado Mesa (3-10, 2-5 WILA) goalkeeper Lauren Wells who made eight saves in the first half and nine more in the second for 17 total.
Regis led 8-3 at halftime and the two teams traded goals to start the second half before the Mavericks made a late run. Colorado Mesa scored three goals in a row to cut the Ranger lead to 10-8 with 13:33 left in the game.
The Ranger defense then locked down the Maverick offense and didn't let them score again. The Ranger offense led by freshman Hilary Duda scored three more, who scored two of them to make the final score 13-8.
Regis outshot the Mavericks 40-14 in the game and forced the Mavericks into 29 turnovers. The Rangers were just 1-for-12 on free position shots in the game.
Duda put in four goals to pace the Rangers, while McDonald tallied three. Sophomore Danica Cutshall led the team with five draw controls and also scored two goals.
Freshman Sierra Perrella led the team with three ground balls and a game-high five caused turnovers, with Kendra Burch causing four and McDonald and junior Erin Flynn each causing three.
Regis will finish up their season next weekend as they host Rollins in two games on Friday and Sunday.
