Rangers Jump Out to 8-5 Halftime Lead but Fall to Rollins College 18-10
Denver, Colo.: The Regis Ranger women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 8-5 halftime lead but couldn't hold off Rollins College falling 18-10.
Trailing 5-4, Regis (2-7) scored the last four goals of the first half to take the 8-5 halftime lead. Rollins, out of Winter Park, Fla., came out of the halftime break with a vengenance and scored three goals within a 1 minute and four second span to tie the game. Junior Cristina Johnson put the Rangers back up by one just 16 seconds later with her second goal of the game.
Rollins (8-4) was then able to put the game away by scoring the next six goals and 10 of the last 11 to win going away 18-10.
Rollins was able to outshoot the Rangers 44-20 including 24-7 in the second half as well as taking 20 of the 30 draw controls.
Sophomore AriAnna McDonald led the Rangers with three goals and four ground balls. She also caused a team-high two turnovers along with freshman Jessika Carlstrom. Junior Cristina Johnson and Kelsi Goings each tallied two scores, while sophomore Morgan Taylor had the Rangers only assist while also scoring once.
Senior Brittany Farniok had a career-high 15 saves playing all 60 minutes in goal.
The Tars were led by Marissa Giannerini and Katy Tyszko, who came off the bench, to score four goals apiece. Liz Connelly had a game-high three assists helping Rollins to nine assists.
Regis will finish their season on Sunday afternoon as they host in-state rival Fort Lewis at 12:00 p.m. at the Regis Lacrosse Field.
