Rangers Late Rally Falls Short in 12-9 Loss to St. Andrews Presbyterian

Denver, Colo.: The Regis women's lacrosse team scored the last five goals after trailing 12-4, but couldn't find the net in the final 7:32 and fell to St. Andrews 12-9 for their first loss of the season.

The two teams battled back and forth the first 12 minutes of the game, but after senior Julia Ostberg knotted the game at three with 18:05 remaining Regis (2-1) saw a scoring barrage by St. Andrews (3-2) to end the first half.  The Knights scored seven straight goals to end the first half to take a 10-3 lead going into halftime.

The Knights scored their eighth goal in a row just 1:57 into the second half to take a commanding 11-3 lead.  Regis would not go away however, and in an eight-minute period would score five goals, two of which came off the stick of freshman Kate Liddle.  The comeback fell short as the Rangers were unable to score over the last 7:32 of the game, after sophomore Cristina Johnson brought the Rangers to within three with her first goal of the season.

Liddle tallied five more goals to increase her season total to a team-leading 11.  Ostberg, sophomore Kelsi Goings, freshman Morgan Taylor, and Johnson each tallied one goal for the Rangers.  Goings had two assists on the afternoon, while Ostberg recorded one.

Junior Brittany Farniok collected nine saves on the day, while freshman Carly Wagner led Regis with five ground balls, helping the Rangers to a 26-15 advantage in that category.

Regis will host Seton Hill on Wednesday, March 11th with game time at 3:00 PM.
