Rangers Topple Shippensburg 6-4 to improve to 2-0 on the season

Denver, Colo.: The Regis Lacrosse team used a stonch defense to defeat Shippensburg University 6-4 on a warm and windy day.  Regis had six different people score the six goals, while goalkeeper Brittany Farniok registered seven saves for the win.

Shippensburg (0-1) got on the board first just under 10 minutes into the first half.  Regis responded 10 minutes later when freshman AriAnna McDonald scored off an assist from Carly Wagner.  Regis (2-0) scored two more goals over the next two minutes to take a 3-1 lead.  Shippensburg scored 28 seconds later, but freshman Kate Liddle responded with 6:20 left in the half to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead at half.

Shippensburg's Beth Long scored two goals in the first 4:33 of the second half to pull the Lady Raiders even with Regis.  The Regis defense then buckled down and shutout Shippensburg the rest of the way and scored twice, once by senior Julia Ostberg and once by sophomore Kelsi Goings.  Ostberg's goal proved to be the game winner.

Freshmen Morgan Taylor and Wagner were the other two Rangers to garner goals on the day.  Regis outshot Shippensburg 20-15 and were able to control 24 ground balls to just 17 for the Lady Raiders.

Defensively, senior Ashley Beauchemin led all players with 10 caused turnovers and six ground balls.

Regis will host St. Andrews Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon, with game time set for 3 PM.
