Rangers Lose Close One to Millersville 13-9
Millersville, Penn.: Regis Women's Lacrosse took a lead midway through the first half but couldn't hold on as they were defeated by Millersville University 13-9.
Millersville (6-8) got out early scoring three goals in the first nine minutes of the game. Regis (6-5) responded with five goals to take a 5-3 lead at the 8:52 mark. Sophomore Kelsi Goings scored two of her three goals during this stretch. Millersville however, scored the next five goals to take an 8-5 lead with 4:31 remaining in the first half.
Freshman Kate Liddle closed the gap to 8-6 on her 40th goal of the season with 2:11 left. Millersville scored 40 seconds later to take a 9-6 lead into halftime.
The two defenses tightened up in the second half as the two teams combined for just seven goals. Regis cut the lead to 10-8 at the 24:42 mark, the closest they would get, when senior Julia Ostberg and sophomore Cristina Johnson scored within 16 seconds of each other.
Millersville then scored the next three goals to take a 13-8 lead at the 9:32 mark of the second half. There was only one goal the rest of the way, by the Rangers' Goings.
Goings scored three goals on the day while, Ostberg and Liddle each tallied two. Freshman Morgan Taylor led the Rangers with three assists. Sophomore Chani Taggart paced Regis with five ground balls on the afternoon.
Regis will finish their season on the road Tuesday as they take on Georgian Court
