Ranger Comeback Fall Shorts in a Close Contest with Notre Dame (Ohio)
ERIE, Pa.-- The Regis University lacrosse team found themselves
in a close contest with Notre Dame (Ohio). The Rangers scored three
unanswered goals late in the second period to decrease their
deficit to just one. Unfortunately it was as close as RU got thanks
to impressive work in goal by Kylie Flett who made 14 saves in the
game to hold on for the 11-10 victory.
The Falcons led the entire first period but the Rangers kept it
close with a Becca Gargaro free position shot with 5:50 remaining
in the period.
The game remained close as both teams traded goals to begin the
first seven minutes of the second period. After Maria Heilner
pulled RU within one goal with 23:04 on the clock the Falcons made
a run.
Three straight NDC goals widened the gap to 11-7 with just under 20
minutes left in the game. The Rangers answered quickly with goals
by Lillian Yanni, Jen Gunlikson and Kelsi Goings.
Goings goal was the final Regis goal which came with just under 12
minutes remaining in the game. After that neither team was able to
find the net and the Falcons held on for the win.
RU had multiple contributions on the offensive end. Kelsi Goings,
Maria Heilner, Jen Gunlikson and Kelsi Goings each scored two
goals. Lillian Yanni added one goal and two assists while Becca
Gargaro scored one goal.
The Rangers head to Greensburg, Pa. for the final game of their
road trip tomorrow, April 30th against Seton Hill at 12:00 pm
(EST).
