Porter's 24 Points Not Enough as Rangers Succumb to Western State 84-76
Gunnison, Colo.: Regis was unable to outscore the Mountaineers as they fell 84-76 to Western State on Sunday in Gunnison. Porter led the Rangers with 24 points followed by Tae'lor Purdy and Salina Kuiper who had 19 and 18 points respectively.
The Mountaineers grabbed the first lead of the game which remained until Regis tied it at 28 with 4:29 remaining in the period. The Rangers were leading by two with 3:05 left but walked into the break with a five point deficit after Western State went ahead with just under two minutes in the first period.
Regis tied the game once in the second half but the Mountaineers held the lead the rest of the time.
Jacque Machesney dished out nine assists in the game, grabbed two steals, and pulled down five rebounds for the Rangers. Purdy grabbed nine rebounds followed by Porter and Meghan Hollenga with eight each.
The Rangers shot 45.6 from the floor (26-57) while shooting 75 percent from the free throw line (18-24).
Up next, Regis will face Johnson & Whales while on the road on Dec. 18th. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
