Rangers Fall 86-57 to Division I UNC in Exhibition Season Opener
Greeley, Colo.: On Tuesday evening, the Rangers opened their season with an exhibition game against Division I Northern Colorado in Greeley. Regis fell to the Bears 86-57 in the game.
UNC took the first lead of the game, 1-0, on a free throw shot by Lara Merritt. The Bears increased their lead to five until the Rangers made their first bucket on a free throw by Tae'lor Purdy.
At the 7:30 mark, Northern Colorado had a 29-4 lead which the Rangers decreased to 29-16 with a 12-0 run in just under three minutes of play (2:55).
Baskets were exhchanged until the final buzzer when UNC walked away with an 86-57 victory. Two Rangers scored in double digits in the game. Purdy, a freshman, scored 14 points in her first collegiate game while junior Chelsea Porter scored 12. Purdy also recorded two steals along with junior Jacque Machesney.
Regis drew 24 fouls in the game and sank 21 of their 30 attempts from the charity line. They also outrebounded the Bears 40 to 38 in the game.
The Rangers next exhibition game is scheduled for Sat., Nov. 7th against the University of Denver. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at DU.
