Rangers Win Fourth Straight with 70-57 Defeat Over Central State
Pueblo, Colo.: Coming off of a 60-54 victory over Abilene Christian on Saturday, the Rangers snagged a victory, their fourth consecutive, over Central State in their final game of the Chuck Stephens Classic in Pueblo on Sunday. Regis defeated the Marauders 70-57.
Regis (8-4, 1-3 RMAC) grabbed an early lead (1-0) when Emily Kuipers sank one of two free throws before the start of the game when Central State's bench was given a technical foul. The lead was exchanged a few times before the game became tied at five just over two minutes into the game. The Rangers grabbed the next lead and held onto it for the remainder of the half.
At the 12:45 mark, Regis began a run as they scored 11 points over the next five and a half minutes while holding the Marauders to zero points during this time.
Five minutes into the second half, the Rangers went on a 14-3 run over the next five minutes to be up by 26 (58-32) halfway through the second period. After grabbing a 26 point lead once more in the period (66-40), Regis walked away with a 13 point victory.
Kuipers recorded her second consecutive double-double, third of the season, with 11 points and ten rebounds. Tae'lor Purdy totaled for 15 points followed by Salina Kuiper and Kara Larson who had 14 and 11 points respectively.
Jacque Machesney dished out seven assists and pulled down nine rebounds for the Rangers while Purdy had six assists and and grabbed eight rebounds.
Up next, Regis will face Western New Mexico in a conference matchup on Jan. 7th at home. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
