Rangers Fall by Four, 78-74, to UNK for Second Loss on the Weekend
Kearney, Neb.: The Rangers fell for the second time this past weekend after falling 78-74 to Nebraska Kearney on Saturday in Kearney.
Regis (13-10, 10-5 RMAC) grasped the first lead getting up by four before both teams exchanged baskets and the lead. By the 10:23 mark the game had been tied five times. After this last tie of the half, both teams had the lead various times before Kearney (17-8, 12-5 RMAC) walked away at the half with a two point lead, 33-31, over Regis.
The second half went much the same as the first with numerous ties and changing of leads. By the end of the game, the score had been tied 12 times with the greatest lead being seven points which was held by each team once in the second half. At the 14:28 mark Regis was seven points ahead of the Lopers and by the 9:32 mark the Lopers had a seven point lead over the Rangers.
While there were numerous ties and lead changes, the victory went to the Lopers who had the lead at the buzzer. With 1:23 remaining in the game, Regis had a one point lead that changed hands to the Lopers. Their lead increased to three before Regis cut the deficit to two after making a free throw basket. Kearney scored two more to walk away with a 78-74 victory.
Leading the Rangers in scoring was senior Paulina Tuell with 30 points. Behind her with 13 was senior Jenny Vieira.
The Rangers will face Metro State in their next conference matchup on Feb. 24th at the Regis Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
