Rangers 73-52 Defeat Over Colorado State Pueblo Makes for Second Straight Victory; Four in Double Digits
Denver, Colo.: The Rangers win their second straight after defeating Colorado State Pueblo 73-52 at home Saturday evening.
Regis (8-7, 4-2 RMAC) took the lead at the 19:31 mark on a layup by senior Jenny Vieira. That lead would be shortlived as the Thunderwolves' Rachel Espinoza made two free throw shots tying the score at two at the 17:54 mark. Less than a minute later Espinoza gave CSU-P the lead (2-4) on a layup.
The Rangers tied the score once more during the half when junior Lauren Luebbe made a layup setting the score at 12-12. Paulina Tuell scored the next two points regrasping the lead for the Rangers. This would be a lead that Regis would keep for the remainder of the half and the game.
The Rangers outshot the Thunderwolves (10-5, 4-3 RMAC) in field goals, three pointers, and free throws. The Rangers shot 42.9 percent from the field (24-56) while CSU-P shot 29.7 percent (19-64). The Thunderwolves made six of 25 three pointers (24.0 percent) while Regis made 11 of 27 (40.7). Both teams commited 16 personal fouls but the Rangers took more free throws than the Thunderwolves taking 16 and making 14 (87.5 percent). CSU-P was 8-11 (72.7 percent) for free throws on the night.
Helping lead the Rangers in their 21 point victory were senior Paulina Tuell, sophomore Chelsea Porter, junior Lauren Luebbe, and freshman Brittany Long. All four scored in double digits with 15, 13, 12, and 11 points respectively.
The Rangers will face in conference opponnent Metro State on Jan. 20 at Metro. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
