Rangers Finish Golden Series with Split

GOLDEN, Colo.:  In similar fashion to the first day of the series, the Ranger women split with the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines on Saturday.  They took the first game 2-0, before falling 4-7 in the second game.

Freshman Rachel Illias started the day off with a triple to left field and was brought in by a left field sac fly to bring the women up 1-0.  The Rangers scored another run in the fifth to reach the final score of 2-0.  Five women each had one hit apiece.

Senior right-hander Nikki Haberkorn collected another complete game, bringing her record to 8-11 on the season.  She allowed only four hits, while striking out five in her 26 batters faced. 

Sophomore Breanna Backlund collected her first RBI of the day in the first inning of the second game when she sent a triple to left center that scored Rachel Illias who had reached on a walk.  The Rangers scored one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings throughout the rest of the game.

The Orediggers scored four runs throughout the first three innings, which put the score at 4-4 with no one scoring until the seventh inning.  The Mines' pitching staff shut Regis down in three batters in the seventh to bring the Orediggers up in the bottom of the seventh.  The opposing team would put three runs in with a walk off homerun to left field to finish the game 4-7.

Backlund went 2-for-4, with two RBIs at the plate.  Junior Shannon Massine earned herself a 3-for-3, performance at the plate, posting one RBI as well.  Senior Natalie Adami also put up two hits for the Ragners.

Freshman Molly Tyler (2-5) will get the loss after coming in to pitch to 18 batters in 3.2 innings.  She allowed three runs and three walks in four hits.  Freshman Sydney Gaffin started the contest, allowing four runs and seven hits, with two strikeouts in her 15 batters faced (2.2 innings).

The Rangers will have a pair of mid-week games at Colorado Christian University on Wednesday, April 11th at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
