Ranger Softball Drops Two to Lady Buffs

Canyon, Texas:  The Regis softball program dropped two Saturday to tournament hosts West Texas A & M Lady Buffs.  The Lady Buffs bested the Rangers in the first game 9-0, finishing in five innings, but the Rangers held their own in the next contest, falling 3-2 in seven innings. 

The Lady Buffs jumped early, earning two runs in the first.  They continued in the third with one run and finished out with six in the fourth to stop the game in the fifth.

The Rangers were held to one hit during the game, by senior Nikki Haberkorn, who finished 1-for-2.  

Haberkorn (0-5) will get the loss, having pitched two innings and facing 14 batters.  She earned three strikeouts while allowing three runs and five walks. 

Freshman Sydney Gaffin and Molly Tyler also saw time on the mound for the Rangers.  Gaffin allowed four hits and four runs in 1.2 innings.  Tyler allowed two runs and walked one in five batters faced. 

The Rangers struck first in the second game, putting up two runs in the fourth.  The Lady Buffs answered with three runs of their own, and both teams would remain scoreless after that. 

Freshman Brianna Bogdajeiwcz led the Rangers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.  She recorded two singles on the day while playing left field for the women. 

Senior Cassie Long, junior Shannon Massine and freshman Molly Tyler and Taylor Wilcox each recorded one hit during the game.  Wilcox sent a double to left center in the fourth for an RBI while Long singled another in for an RBI of her own.

Tyler (0-2) will get the loss for the game having pitched three innings.  In 12 batters faced, she allowed three hits and two runs. 

Gaffin came in during the fourth, allowing one run and three walks in 14 batters faced.  Haberkorn finished the game for the women, seeing one batter.

The women will take on Eastern New Mexico University Sunday, February 19th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
