Women’s Softball Finishes out Desert Stinger with a 9-1 Loss to Flyers

Las Vegas, Nev.:  The Ranger women's softball program ended the Desert Stinger Tournament hosted by Montana State University-Billings with a 9-1 loss to the Flyers of Lewis University. 

The women recorded six hits in 22 at bats on the day.  Senior right hander Nikki Haberkorn will pick up the loss.  In her five innings pitched, Haberkorn allowed 11 hits and two walks, while she struck out two.  She faced 31 batters on the day.

The Rangers held off the Flyers until the third inning when the Flyers connected some hits and scored two runs.  The Rangers answered in the fourth with a run of their own by the bat of freshman Taylor Wilcox

Wilcox singled up the middle to score Backlund who had reached on a fielding error by the third baseman.  The Flyers would shut down the Ranger women after that allowing no more runs, but scoring seven of their own to finish the game in six innings.

Wilcox had the only RBI on the day in her 1-for-3 performance at the plate.  Also collecting hits for the Rangers were Rachel Illias, Breanna Backlund, Natalie Adami, Shannon Massine, and Briana Bogdajeiwcz.

The team will head to Texas for the West Texas Lady Buff Classic next weekend.  They will start the tournament off with Tarleton State on Friday, February 17th at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
