Nicole Trimboli Tabbed as Head Softball Coach

Denver, Colo.: Regis Director of Athletics Ann Martin today announced the hiring of Nicole Trimboli as the Rangers head softball coach.  Trimboli, who replaced Dana Lillard, becomes the fourth head coach in program history.  She will offically begin her duties on August 15th.

“I am excited to hire Nicole as our softball coach,” states Martin.  “Her knowledge and experience will be an asset to our team and athletic department.  Nicole has a lot of ties throughout the country and I am very pleased to hire someone who is held in such high regards amongst the softball community.  She will be a great fit for our program.”

Trimboli, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., most recently was an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Central Florida in Orlando, Fla.  She began there in October 2009 and previously was an assistant coach at Portland State during the 2008-09 season.  In 2010, Trimboli helped the Central Florida to a 36-23 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Trimboli reacts, “I have been waiting for a great opportunity like this for my first head coaching position.  I feel very lucky to be able to come back to my home state and coach a sport I love.  I look forward to meeting all the players and continuing the success that the previous coaches have had.”

Her one season at Portland State proved to be successful as she helped lead the Vikings to a Pacific Coast Softball Conference title with a school-best 15-5 conference record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Not a stranger to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Trimboli spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Colorado Mines during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.  In 2008, she helped lead the Orediggers to a 38-19 overall record and the RMAC Championship.  Trimboli and the rest of the staff was honored as the RMAC???Coaching Staff of the Year.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Trimboli earned All-Big 12 honors three times, including first team honors both her freshman and senior seasons.  She also earned NCAA All-Midwest accolades twice.  Her 2002 Husker team earned a spot in the Women’s College World Series, finishing fifth, while helping UNL to Big 12 titles in 2001 and 2004.  Trimboli was also named Big 12 All-Tournament twice, while earning a spot on the Big 12 10th Anniversary Team.

“I want to thank Ann (Martin) for this opportunity; it is a dream of mine to be a head coach at a Division II school,” states Trimboli.  “The balance between life and work is a major reason why Regis and Division II is such an ideal place to further my career.”

Trimboli ranks in the top 10 in Big 12 history in at bats (772) and RBIs with 173.  She ranks in the top 10 in eight separate career categories in Nebraska history, with her 232 career hits ranking fifth.

Trimboli currently plays in the four-team National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league with the USSSA Pride, where she plays with current USA National Team members Cat Osterman, Andrea Duran, Alissa Haber, Lauren Lappin, Caitlin Lowe, Jessica Mendoza, and Natasha Watley.

Trimboli was drafted by the Akron Racers in 2004 and was named a NPF All-Star as a rookie before helping the Chicago Bandits to the NPF Championship in 2005.  She was named the NPF Championship MVP after leading the Chicago Bandits to the championship in 2008 and a year later earned her third NPF Championship also with the Bandits.

Regis finished the 2010 season with a 22-28 record and a third place finish at the RMAC Tournament.  The Rangers lost just one player to graduation and return All-RMAC performers seniors Alisa Heronema and Bianca Holley.
