Rangers Split with Mustangs on the Road

Silver City, N.M.: After going 2-2 in Chadron, Neb. against the Eagles last weekend, Regis continued their split trend as they finished 1-1 on Saturday against the Western N.M. Mustangs in Silver City, N.M. The Rangers grabbed the first game 5-1 before succumbing to Western 4-3 in game two.

In game one, Regis posted all five of their runs during the first six innings before the Mustangs scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. The first went scoreless before the Rangers tallied one run in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

Regis' first run was scored on an RBI by Bianca Holley who singled to right field to bring in Nikki Haberkorn. Haberkorn led off the inning with a double to right field. Alisa Heronema scored the second run of the game in the fourth after reaching on a single and being brought in on a single to center field by Bre Backlund. A homer by Emily Anderson to lead off the top of the fifth added one more to the board for Regis to put them up by three.

The Rangers scored their final two runs of the game in the top of the sixth when a replay of the fourth inning took place. Haberkorn led off the inning with a homerun before Natalie Adami scored the second run of the inning to put the Rangers up 5-0.

The Mustangs tallied one run in the bottom of the inning but were unable to score anymore runs for the remainder of the game. Recording the win for Regis was Holley who now sits at 7-11 this season.

Game two began differently as Western N.M. took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The second went scoreless before Regis put themselves on the board in the top of the third with one run.

They posted two more runs in the fourth as Amber Aragon-Autobee brought in both RBI's on a single to left field which scored Cassie Long and Mo McDaniel. With Regis unable to cross anymore over the plate in the inning, the game was tied at three going into the fifth.

The Mustangs added one more run to the board in the bottom of the fifth and neither team was able to score again leading to a Regis loss. Recording the loss was Haberkorn who falls to 6-10 this season.

Up next, Regis will face N.M. Highlands on Sunday in a two game series in Silver City, N.M. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
