Heronema Sets All-Time Hits Record as Regis Grabs Two Victories Over Highlands
Silver City, N.M.: As the Rangers finished their series in Silver City, N.M. with two wins over Highlands, Alisa Heronema snagged the all-time hits record at Regis as she has totaled for 245 hits so far in her career. Game one ended 2-0 in favor of Regis before the Rangers defeated the Cowgirls 7-5 in game two.
Game one went scoreless for four innings before Regis posted their first run of the game in the top of the fifth. Bianca Holley doubled to right field to lead off the inning and crossed the plate on a fielder's choice. The second and final run of the game came in the top of the sixth when Natalie Adami led off the inning with a solo shot homerun over the left field fence. Holley grabbed the win and jumps to 8-11 this season.
Regis scored early in game two as they grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Nikki Haberkorn brought in both runs with two outs as she homered to left field to bring in Shannon Massine who reached on a walk.
That lead was short lived as the Cowgirls tallied three runs in the bottom of the inning as Ashley Paiz led off the inning with a homerun to left field. They added two more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-2 lead going into the third.
Regis answered back that inning as they posted three runs on three hits to tie the game at five. Three Ranger singles loaded the bases for Bre Backlund who brought in two RBI's on a single to center field. Haberkorn brought in the final run of the inning when she grounded out to third base.
The fourth inning brought two runs for Regis on two hits all with two outs. Two singles, one by Heronema which was her record-setting hit, and a walk loaded the bases for Backlund once again as she reached on a fielder's choice and brought in two more RBI's. With Heronema's single to left field in the inning, she surpassed Rebekah Tippets (1999-2002), Regis inductee Hall of Fame and RMAC-All-Time Team member, to now hold the Regis all-time hits record. She has accomplished this just part way through her junior year.
The fifth, sixth, and seventh went scoreless with game two ending in favor of Regis 7-5. Holley grabbed her second win of the day and is now 9-11.
Up next, Regis will face UCCS on April 24th and 25th at Mountain Lion Field. First pitch is set for noon on the 24th.
