Rangers Fall Twice to Metro State to Finish 0-4 in Series
Denver, Colo.: On Sunday, the Rangers hosted Metro State conference games at Metro State because of unplayable field conditions at the Regis Softball Field. Regis dropped both games to fall to 0-4 in their series against the Roadrunners.
Metro State scored in the top of the first to take a two run lead. That lead lasted until the top of the sixth when they extended it to three as they added one more run. The top of the sixth began a rally for Metro State that would tally six more runs.
The Roadrunners had five hits in the inning, four of which were
singles and one homerun by Sarah Rusch, and one walk. Julia Diehl
grabbed the win for Metro State and is now 4-0 on the season.
Recording the loss for the Rangers was Nikki Haberkorn who falls to
1-3.
Game two began similar to the first with the Roadrunners grabbing a
two run lead in the top of the second. The third went scoreless
before Regis scored three in the bottom of the fourth to take a one
run lead (3-2).
Alyssa Beskid led off the inning with a double to right field before being brought in on a homer to centerfield by Haberkorn. Bianca Holley doubled up the middle after Haberkorn’s homerun and eventually scored on a bunt by Bre Backlund. Backlund singled on the bunt and advanced to second on a Roadrunner throwing error which is what scored Holley.
Neither team scored in the fifth taking the game into the sixth where Metro State added two to the board and the Rangers one to bring the score to a 4-4 tie. The Roadrunners added one more run in the top of the seventh that Regis was unable to respond to leading to a 5-4 victory for Metro State. Brittany Moss recorded the win for the Roadrunners and now holds a 2-1 record. Recording the loss for Regis was Holley who is now 2-3 this season. Holley allowed just seven hits while fanning nine batters in the game.
On the day, Alisa Heronema went 4-for-7 with one RBI. Haberkorn went 3-for-6 with two RBI’s and one run.
Up next, the Rangers will face Adams State in a four game conference series. Game times are set for 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Sat., Mar. 6th and 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sun., Mar. 7th.
