Regis Softball Beat Mesa State 6-2; Fall in Nightcap 10-4
Denver, Colo.: Regis split on day two against Mesa State to result in a split series with the Mavericks. Regis grabbed game one 6-2 before succumbing to Mesa 10-4 in game two.
Mesa State scored the first run of game one as they posted one run in the top of the second on two doubles. Whitney Bailey reached on a double to left field before being brought in on a double by Megan Smith to right center.
Regis answered back in the bottom of the inning as they tallied one run on two hits and one Maverick error. Natalie Adami led off the inning with a double to left field before Bianca Holley reached on an error. Two Ranger strikeouts brought Bre Backlund to the plate who singled to the shortstop to bring in Admi.
The third and fourth went scoreless before Regis tacked two more runs onto the board in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. A single to the shortstop by Shannon Massine started off the inning to bring Jamie Winsor to the plate. Winsor sacrificed Massine to second before a single to centerfield by Nikki Haberkorn moved her to third. Haberkorn advanced to second on the throw. With runners on second and third, Adami walked to load the bases. A pop up brought pinch hitter Mo McDaniel to the plate who singled to left field to bring in the two runs.
In the sixth, the Rangers added three more runs to the board. Backlund started off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alisa Heronema. Massine reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced Backlund to third. Massine stole second before a Ranger out brought Haberkorn to the plate. She added runs to the board with a dent as she homered to centerfield and hit the score board for three RBI’s to put Regis up by five (6-1) going into the seventh.
Mesa State added one run in the top of the seventh to lead Regis to grab a 6-2 victory. Bianca Holley recorded the win and now holds a 3-11 record.

The Mavericks grabbed a four run lead in the top of the second in game two off of three hits. They added one more to the board in the third off of a sacrifice fly to go up 5-0. In the fourth they added five more to the board to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
The Rangers scored four in the bottom of the fifth to come within six of the Mavericks. Regis tallied four runs on three hits as they took advantage of one Mesa State error. Holley led off the inning with a double which brought Amber Aragon-Autobee to the plate for a walk. Backlund reached on a fielder’s choice. Amber Aragon-Autobee was out on the play. Heronema was next to the plate and singled through the right side to score Holley. A single by Massine scored Backlund before a Maverick error brought in Heronema. Winsor brought in the last run when she grounded out to the shortstop to score Massine.
The sixth and seventh went scoreless resulting in a 10-4 victory for Mesa State. Recording the loss was Haberkorn who falls to 3-7 this season.
