Rangers Grab First RMAC Victory in Split with Adams State
Denver, Colo.: As the Rangers began their second RMAC series, they split with Adams State to come to hold a 4-8 overall record, 1-5 RMAC. Regis grabbed the game one victory 7-5 before succumbing to the Grizzlies 7-6 in game two. Heronema went off on the day going 5-for-7 with one double, two triples, and scoring four of the Rangers' runs.
Regis jumped on top of Adams State in game one as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Heronema led off the inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a sacrafice bunt by Shannon Massine. Natalie Adami walked and stole second to place runners at second and third with Alyssa Beskid up at the plate.
A throwing error by Grizzly catcher Jaycee Lovato scored Heronema before Beskid hit a two run homerun to bring in Adami. Mo McDaniel scored after being hit by a pitch on another Ranger homerun by Nikki Haberkorn.
The Rangers added one more run in the bottom of the second and fourth to be up 7-0 going into the top of the fifth. The Grizzlies put themselves on the board in the top of the inning with one run before adding four more in the top of the sixth. With no more runs crossing the plate, the Rangers grabbed the victory with Haberkorn recording the win (2-3).
Game two went scoreless for two innings before Adams tallied four runs in the top of the third on four Grizzly hits. Regis posted one run in the bottom of the inning after Heronema reached on a triple to left field and crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Adams State added one more run in the top of the fourth and two in the fifth before the Rangers scored four in the bottom of the fifth to come within two of the Grizzlies (7-5). Bre Backlund led the inning off with a double to left field before three straight walks scored her. Another walk scored Heronema before a Grizzly pitching change brought Haberkorn to the plate. Haberkorn reached on an error and brought in Massine. Bianca Holley then grounded out to second base to bring in Adami for an RBI and the final run of the inning.
Regis added one more run in the bottom of the sixth but was unable to score another in the seventh leading to an Adams State 7-6 victory. Holley recorded the loss for Regis (2-4).
Up next, the Rangers will finish their series against Adams State on Sunday at the Regis Softball Field. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
