Ranger Softball Improves to 16-9 with Doubleheader Sweep of Western New Mexico

Silver City, N.M.: The Regis Ranger softball team completed a four-game sweep of Western New Mexico by dispensing of the Mustangs 6-2 and 9-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Regis (16-9, 8-2 RMAC) scored five runs in the second inning to jump out early and rode the shoulders of sophomore Bianca Holley and freshman Natalie Adami as they limited Western New Mexico to just twor runs, with just one earned.  Freshman Nikki Haberkorn supplied most of the offense hitting a grand slam in the five-run second.  Regis tacked on another run in the sixth off the bat of sophomore Emily Anderson, hitting her fourth homerun of the season.

Anderson led the Rangers with two hits, while Haberkorn, senior Jacki Martinez, freshman Maegan Cooley, and sophomore Amber Aragon-Autobee were each 1-for-3.  Haberkorn connected on her team-leading fifth homerun of the season.  Holley recorded her seventh win of the season against just three losses.

The Ranger bats came alive in the second game as they pounded out 16 hits in the 9-3 victory.  Regis scored three runs in both the third and seventh innings.  Sophomore Jamie Winsor supplied much of the offense going 3-for-5 with five RBI.  Three of those RBI came off her seventh inning homerun, her first of the season, that put the game out of reach.

Martinez also went 3-for-5 in the game, while sophomore Alisa Heronema was a perfect 3-for-3 including a triple, which ties her for the Regis season school record with nine.  Aragon-Autobee went 2-for-4 also and was joined by Haberkorn's 2-for-4 performance.

Haberkorn also recorded the win, her seventh, pitching a complete game and allowing just two earned runs.  She struck out a career-high tying nine batters and now leads the Rangers with 62 strikeouts and seven complete games.

Regis returns home to host Fort Lewis College with two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday March 14th and 15th.
